Who We Are
Asking a group of Quakers what they believe will yield lots of different answers! Some of us believe similarly to mainline Christians, faith in God as creator, sustainer and redeemer. Some of us don’t believe in God, some of us like God but still have questions. We have a wide range of beliefs about God.
So maybe a better question is, “What do we practice?” As Quakers, we practice listening for Spirit in all that we do, whether that’s the big things, such as decisions about choosing a spouse or caring for our families or the smaller things, like decisions we make for the meeting. We try to see Spirit in all that we do.
We also trust that the Spirit leads us best in community. In our Monthly Meetings for Business, we listen to Spirit, we listen to our own hearts, and we listen to each other to decide what to do. Sometimes this looks like consensus, but it’s really something Quakers call the “sense of the meeting.” We work to find unity, knowing that we have been led together by the Spirit.

Our 11 a.m. Semi-Programmed service is in-person only. Our pastor does record a message weekly that is shared via email and social media.

Ways to Serve
If you’d like to get involved at First Friends, there are lots of opportunities to learn and serve. We have occasional offerings, like “lunch and learns” to hear about social justice issues, book groups, Sunday school classes on the Bible and Quakerism. If you’re handy or like to garden, you can join our Small Repairs Working Group. If you like to deliver casseroles and dinners for friends who need respite care, you can sign up for Caring Friends.
